A Driving Force for Health Equity

OCHIN Policy Priorities

OCHIN champions policies that:

Sustain and Transform Community-based Care for the Underserved

Community-based providers face significant challenges meeting today’s growing needs, while innovating to meet tomorrow’s new demands. Scaling sustainable health care delivery and payment models that increase equitable access for marginalized and underserved communities is a national priority. To succeed, reliable, inclusive, and actionable data is needed to manage population health, improve clinical care, realize cost efficiencies, and inform policy decisions.

We urge policymakers to:

  • Strengthen and drive policies that increase access to community-based care.

  • Expand and optimize predictable virtual care payment and regulation.

  • Drive new payment models, such as value-based care, and innovation pilots that prioritize equity.

  • Standardize the digital collection, exchange, and reporting of health data for equitable evidence-based care.

Close the Digital Divide to Drive Equity for Patients and Providers

Closing the digital divide will provide a national infrastructure for advancing equity and innovation in health care, while addressing a range of social determinants of health. Predictable, ongoing investment to maintain and accelerate widespread connectivity and adoption of digital solutions will remove structural barriers to 21st-century health care.

We urge policymakers to:

  • Modernize and improve digital health information infrastructure and tools for patients and providers to improve public health and clinical care.

  • Accelerate broadband connectivity for community-based providers, as well as last-mile connection for underserved patients and rural communities.

  • Invest in community-based workforce development and training at the intersection of health and technology to cultivate community resilience and culturally competent care.
